Nikki Spicer
Chair of the Board
Nikki Spicer is spa director at Vita Skin Spa. Her spa in Salisbury was established in 2005 and in 2020 she opened a sister spa in Winchester.
Nikki’s Mum was cared for by the hospice in 2015 and after fundraising for the charity, Nikki joined the board of trustees in 2017.
David Pardoe
Trustee
A Founding Director of Rosehill Advisors, David has been a Chartered Surveyor for 25 years, specialising in the management of rural properties and businesses. He sits on a number of professional and charitable boards in the area around Salisbury.
Ian Downie
Trustee
Ian is Clinical Director of the Musculoskeletal Directorate at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. As well as serving on the faculty for head and neck anatomy at the Royal College of Surgeons, he works as Salisbury’s postgraduate dental tutor and runs the south coast head and neck anatomy course.
Mark Merrill
Trustee
For many years Mark has combined a part-time employed role as a finance director with running independent accountancy practice. In that capacity, he works as an advisor on financial management, governance and planning, primarily to the voluntary sector. Previously, Mark served as Finance Director of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He has also been a board member and chair of a large UK charitable organisation.
Stella Sykes
Trustee
Based in Fordingbridge, Stella has worked for Salisbury Hospice as a volunteer and bank administrator for 20 years. She has also been involved with many fundraising events. Her background is in copywriting, editing and event management.
Stella has written two novels, several short stories and articles. She also served as a governor representing the volunteers for Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Mick Nielsen
Trustee
Mick retired as a consultant in intensive care medicine at Southampton University Hospital in 2007. His consultant career involved leadership roles at local, regional and national level, including the presidency of the Intensive Care Society.
In retirement, Mick has trained and worked part time as a personal trainer and has also been President of the Sports Medicine Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He has represented Great Britain for his age group in World Triathlon Championships in Hawaii, Vancouver, Budapest and London. He has been closely involved, on a voluntary basis, with the ‘Improving Global Health through Leadership Development Programme’ which sends NHS staff to work for 6 months in partnership with local teams in developing countries. He has been the programme’s primary link with partners in Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and the Eastern Cape in South Africa.
Dr Carl Broadbridge
Trustee
Carl trained in Salisbury Hospital before moving to Oxford, where he completed specialist training in the treatment of pain.
He returned to Salisbury as a consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine in 2011 and makes frequent visits to the Hospice to work with the team.
Jules Whale
Trustee
Jules works in her own practice as a life coach and hypnotherapist. Her late husband was cared for in 2010, by the team at Salisbury Hospice. She says that the positive impact this care had on her family was lasting and profound.
She sits on the board of trustees having been initially co opted in 2022.
