Here at Salisbury Hospice Charity, we are encouraging our local community to get talking about death, dying and grief.
The national campaign, run by Hospice UK works to open up conversations around death and dying. This year’s theme explores the different communities and cultures in the UK – how they feel, talk about, and approach death and dying, what brings them together, and the conversations they have around the end of life.
There are many differences in the ways that cultures and faiths approach and mark death and dying. But at their core, feelings about dying, and our experiences of grief, are universal emotions that we all share, no matter who we are or where we live.
Honest, timely conversations about death and dying are essential to good end of life care. Yet all too often barriers, including lack of confidence, taboos around discussing death, and confusion about who should be having these conversations mean patients, carers and families may not understand what is happening, or get all the information and support they need

“Talking about death and dying is never easy, but it’s vital. Honest and timely conversations can ensure that people get the support they need and help loved ones better understand their wishes.”
Chris White, Senior Digital Marketing & Campaign Manager at Hospice UK
Dying Matters is Hospice UK’s flagship campaign. It aims to create an open culture that talks about death and where people feel able to listen and support people who are planning for end of life, those who are dying and bereaved people
