Christmas Challenge raises over £41k for Salisbury Hospice Charity

Between Tuesday 29th December ‘Giving Tuesday’ and Tuesday 6th December, we ran our 2022 Christmas Challenge in partnership with The Big Give. The challenge is a match-funding campaign, encouraging donors to support a specific hospice service and in doing so, have their donation doubled. This year the service was Hospice at Home.

Match-funding was made possible because of generous pledges made by several of our regular givers and championship funding from a charitable trust, The Hospital Saturday Fund.

We are delighted to say that the challenge was a huge success, exceeding its target of £30k and raising £41,116.91, which includes gift aid for our Hospice at Home service.

Our Hospice at Home service allows patients the choice to remain in their own home, surrounded by all that is comforting and familiar at the end of their lives. If this service did not exist, many patients would need to be admitted to the acute hospital or hospice beds without meeting their preferred place of death, creating added psychological distress for patients and their families.

The demand for this service has increased vastly following the pandemic. Sadly, the pandemic, as well as the cost-of-living crisis has stretched care services to the limit across the country.

The funds will be used to help secure the service by funding nursing costs. Last year the challenge raised in excess of £19k, we are thrilled we were able to top this.

We cannot thank everyone who donated enough, including the TH Russell Charitable trust. Your support makes a huge difference to the patients and families we support. A huge thank you also to our pledgers and our champion The Hospital Saturday Fund.
